The One Laptop per Child foundation (OLPC) cheap laptop, called the XO, provides access to the Internet using a mesh network approach. Thus messages from one child's laptop may pass through many other laptops before reaching a telephone network. President Bush publicly urged the House of Representatives to pass legislation that would grant immunity to telecommunications firms that may have illegally spied on citizens after being requested to do so by the government.
