People apparently use Google to search for information on respiratory infections during epidemics. Google.org's philanthopic unit reports that it has been able to track the outbreaks of flu like disease a week to ten days before they have been reported by the U.S. Center for Disease Control.

It's official. Or so it seems. Already the most active handset manufacturer in the developing world, Nokia today made an announcement which places it well and truly at the heart of the international development effort. Facebook, the social networking site, has an application called causes that allows users to raise funds and create online rallies.
